LONGMEADOW....FREE BLOCK OF THE MONTH

Hello all
I wanted to share some exciting news.  Christy Burdick of Sycamore Hill Quilts has designed a block of the month and IT'S FREE.
THAT'S RIGHT--FREE!!!!  Christy desgins her Block of the Month quilts, gives each month away for free for a limited time.  The last block is normally the center block and this is the only block you would need to purchase for the quilt.  I approached Christy to see if we could carry the quilt patterns in the shop and she agreed.

Each month on the 1st, Christy will release a block.  I will have the block in the shop available for pick up.
You can also sign up on Christy's blog to receive automatic updates/notifications when the block becomes available.
This is a 6 month program.  The seventh month is the center block, which you purchase.  This center block will be available both here at the shop and on PatternSpot.com for purchase.

Christy designed this quilt with bright fabric.  I will be making my version with civil war fabric.  I will be putting fabric kits together using civil war fabrics and they will be available for sale at the shop.

Christy has designed two other quilt/block of the month quilts: Sycamore Rose and Lancaster Co.  Both are still available at

When we are done, we will have a quilt display of all the quilts.

I hope you will join Christy and I on our journey to Longmeadow.

Applique Chapter

Here is the post from our Applique Chapter that I started.
We meet the first Monday of the month at the quilt shoppe:
ENJOY!!!!

Hi all
I finally got into Blogger.
So this is an update for last month and this month.
ENJOY THE TRIP!!!!

So we had a field trip last month to Thousand Oaks, Ca.  We met with the Applique Chapter from that area, Thimbles and Threads.  We met Jessica and few of their members.  They meet at Cotton and Chocolate Quilt Shop twice a month; 4th Sunday, 1pm-4pm and 1st Tuesday, 10am-1pm.  We asked a lot of questions and of course shopped in the quilt shop.  We will hopefully in the future plan activities with this chapter.
Here are a couple of pics I remembered to take (at the last miniute).
This quilt is being recreated by Jessica.  It is called "The Rising Sun".  It is in the Smithsonian.  The Quilt is not on display.  You need to make an appointment to see it.

Here is the original quilt:
Here is Jessica and some of their members and our members.

THANK YOU THIMBLES AND THREADS!!!

This month.....
We had a meeting of our great minds on Monday.  We had a lot of fun and learned a few things from each other.
Here are some pics of our adventure on Monday.

So we are working on an opportunity quilts and hexies.

This is my method of stitching hexies using paper clips to hold the
fabric down and tacking with thread.

Fran showed us her way. She uses a glue stick and folds down the sides.
A much quicker way I would say.  I will give this a try.
Fran is working a the hexie quilt from Di Ford's Primarily Quilts book.

So later that day at the 6pm meeting, Christy shows up with her block
finished for the opportunity quilt.
Way to go Christy

Until next month....have a wonderful Labor Day!!
